If you want to venture into a museum outside of London, you might want to visit the National Museums Liverpool. It is worth noting that it represents the only group of national museums outside of London. As the name suggests, this refers to a group of museums and galleries that are found in and near Liverpool, England. It was formerly called the National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside. No matter which museum or gallery you choose to visit from this group, you don’t have to pay any entrance fee as each gallery offers free admission. The public museum is sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media Sport. Under the English law, the National Museums Liverpool is considered exempt charity.

The group of museums could be traced back to the mid 19th century, specifically on the year 1851. At that time, the World Museum had also been founded. The National Museums Liverpool, however, was only established as a group of museums in 1986 and acquired its current name in 2003. As of today, the group consists of eight different locations. One of these museums is located outside of Liverpool, in Wirral. This museum is called the Lady Lever Art Gallery.

Together, the museums provide you with a vast range of collections that span across several disciplines and that came from several countries. There are over a million objects of interest and works of art that can be perused during a tour of the Liverpool museums.
